KEALOPIKO
Wednesday - August 24, 2011
Friends Jamie Makasobe, Ane Bakutis and Hina Kneubuhl shared a common goal of bringing honor to their kupuna, so they created the clothing company Kealopiko as a way to share their stories and create things that they would be proud of.
“We make clothing that is comfortable and stylish, but it has meaning to it as well,” explains Makasobe, “It’s fashion with mana’o. It has a story, and there’s a reason for making each piece.”
“For each collection, we design for those times of the year, so we look at what’s flowering, fruiting or breeding and choose plants and animals whose time it is,” adds
Kneubuhl. “And how the Hawaiians used these plants and animals is part of the story.”
Kealopiko is available in various stores throughout Hawaii and online. For more information or a list of stores that carry their products, visit kealopiko.com or call 808-393-8280.
