Wednesday - January 12, 2011
Miss Hawaii Jalee Fuselier, 22, has landed in Las Vegas for the Miss America pageant, taking place Jan. 15 at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, and scheduled to air on ABC.
Fuselier, who is French, English and Winnebago Tribe Indian, was born in Louisiana and moved to Hawaii at age 10. She was homeschooled and graduated from Hawaii Pacific University with a degree in international relations.
In addition to her goal of becoming Miss America, Fuselier wants to go back to school for a master’s degree in social work with hopes of becoming a counselor.
Here, she gives MidWeek an exclusive look at some of her favorite fashion pieces she’ll be wearing throughout the week of the Miss America pageant.
Miss Hawaii Jalee Fuselier’s fashion and beauty favorites
Believe it or not, this Miss Hawaii describes her style as casual. She likes to wear simple cotton dresses, jeans, shorts and “always” slippers.
“I don’t like a lot of gaudy stuff,” she says. “I think less is more.”
Fuselier lists Jovani as one of her favorite designers, as well as Gionni Straccia, who is the designer of her evening gown for the national pageant. A favorite store of hers is La Casa Hermosa in Florida, which is owned by her aunt Robin Flemming.
Her favorite beauty item is Dior mascara, and her beauty secret is water - inside and out. “I drink lots of water,” says the North Shore resident. “And I just feel more beautiful after being in the ocean.”
Her hobbies include baking, cave diving and sewing. And to stay fit, she does Pilates, swims and, in preparation for Miss America, added weight training to her regiment.
She loves to eat fish, and notes the ahi salad at Big City Diner as one of her favorite dishes.
