These days teenage girls across the country have only one thing on their mind - prom.

It’s that time of year when weekends and after-school hours are devoted to prom dress shopping. And while most girls can already visualize their dream gown, others are simply clueless. Whatever the case, here are some tips from two local special occasion wear stores.

“Nowadays prom is getting more formal,” says Claudette Takimoto, owner of Party Dress by Claudette. “The dresses are more elegant, and because of that the prices went up too, and for some parents it’s become a burden.

“As for style, the puffier dress like a

Cinderella gown is really popular, and the mermaid style and slightly A-line, not too straight.”

“This prom, color is really important,” adds Audrey Fu, owner of

Villa Roma. “Colors from lime green to a darker emerald green, citrus colors and yellow are popular. Also lilac has become very popular and mango continues to be really strong.

“We’re also seeing both the romantic look with full skirts, flower trims and bows; and the glamourous with satin. And strapless continues to be very strong.”

Party Dress by Claudette, in business for 35 years, is located at 615 Piikoi St.

Villa Roma, in business for 40 years, is located at Ward Warehouse.
