Local girl Moani Silva always wanted to have her own clothing line. Well, three years ago that dream came true when she started Recycled Sweetheart, offering eco-friendly fashions handmade from recycled fabric.

“The style is laid-back, comfy and sexy,” says Silva, a 2000 graduate of Kamehameha Schools. “I try to stick with old, unique, vintage looks, such as old muumuus from grandma’s closet or shirts from grandpa’s closet.”

Silva, 26, says growing up she never liked shopping and would make her own clothes. She learned to sew on her own, but would later attend the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco.

Recycled Sweetheart was only available to family and friends before Silva introduced it to the public last fall. Now, Recycled Sweetheart is available at Shasa Emporium, Buddha Boutique, Madison & Co., Fashionista’s Market, Night Market at The Waterfront at Aloha Tower Marketplace the third Wednesday of each month at Poohala Lei Flowers (69 N. Beretania St.) during First Friday in Chinatown and online at http://www.recycledsweetheart.com. For more information, e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
