Shanghai Tang Hosts Benefit
Wednesday - January 28, 2009
Shanghai Tang at Ala Moana Center hosts a celebration benefit Jan. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. for the Feed the Hunger (FTH) Foundation, a new movement to help women in third world countries rise out of poverty.
The event is free and open to the public, and will feature more information about the foundation, as well as cocktails and pupus. Also, Shanghai Tang will donate 10 percent of sales generated from Jan. 25 to 31 to the FTH foundation.
According to the FTH Foundation, it will provide microcredit loans to poor people in villages around the world who are unable to access other resources. These borrowers, primarily women, will be able to purchase a bicycle to take their woven baskets to the market, a cow to provide milk for their children and to sell cheese; or seeds to grow cotton, pears and corn. With their profits, the borrowers will turn their mud house into a concrete home, send their children to college, provide health-care for their families and infuse literacy campaigns in their villages.
Featured here are the latest fashions from Shanghai Tang modeled by the newly crowned Narcissus queen and princesses.
There are 35 Shanghai Tang boutiques worldwide. The Ala Moana store opened its doors in 2002 and is located on the second floor near Sears. For more information, call 942-9800.
