Soleil

Calling all island glam girls. Mark your calendars for the Soleil fashion/shopping event on Saturday, Dec. 2, at La Pietra School at Diamond Head. On sale will be apparel by designers from big fashion cities like Los Angeles and New York mixed with a designer from Rarotonga, and countless accessories from Tahiti, Samoa and all over the Pacific. “I call it Pacific fusion,” says Summer Vaimaona (pictured at right), owner of Soleil. “It’s fashionable pieces that the everyday girl wants to wear but paired with Polynesian accessories — belts, jewelry and purses — little touches that make it island.” Vaimaona, a 1999 graduate of Kamehameha Schools, hopes to open a boutique by the end of 2007. Until then, she continues to work full time as a Polynesian dancer for Tihati Productions, and plans to host quarterly fashion events throughout the year. “I was raised around beautiful Polynesian women, so for me, this is my tribute to them,” says Vaimaona, who is Samoan, Tahitian, Hawaiian, Chinese and Caucasian. “I can do what I love, which is fashion, but yet still hold onto my deep Polynesian roots.” The Soleil shopping event on Dec. 2 takes place from 4 to 9 p.m. with a fashion show at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $7 (includes pupus and one cocktail). Valet parking will be available for $2. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association. For more information, visit www.soleil808.com
