Summer is here, and according to Neiman Marcus fashion director Ken Downing, some of summer’s top trends will continue into the fall making the transition between seasons effortless.

“Cargo pants are perfect for summer and give a nod to the importance of pants for fall,” explains Downing. “Cargo’s safari are chic with a wedge, sexy with a heel, or relaxed rolled up with a flat sandal.

“Also, the global groove continues with the eclectic mix of painterly prints, tie dye, ikats and batiks to add a splash of bold color to your summer looks.” Downing adds that safari details of olive green, epaulets and utility pockets transform into military influences; and safari jackets are the way to top relaxed pants, summer’s favorite shorts or leggings, and can be worn at night as the alternative evening cover up.

“Juxtapose the borrowed-from-the-boys references with flirty ruffles, flounces and chantilly lace, an important trend as we move ahead into the autumn months,” he continues. “And another nod to what’s ahead is pearls, and lots of them! Luxe layering of multiple strands, real with faux, add the feminine contrast to the masculine military. And green is the color of the fall season.”
