Tori Richard celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with a series of events, in-store happenings, an art contest, and a commemorative coffee table book.
Next up is the Junior League of Honolulu’s Sacs In The City fundraiser featuring Tori Richard’s Fall 2006 collection as well as vintage designs from its archives. The fashion show luncheon takes place Saturday, April 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Tapa Ballroom.
Tori Richard was founded in 1956 by Chicago garment manufacturer Mortimer Feldman, patternmaker Mitsue Aka and designer and Feldman’s wifeto- be Janice Moody. The company is named after Moody’s daughter Victoria and Feldman’s eldest son Richard.
In its early years, Tori Richard was known as a premier designer/manufacturer of women’s resort sportswear before adding men’s shirts which “quickly became a staple of the island gentleman’s wardrobe.” Today, Tori Richard continues to create stunning and dramatic resort wear for men and women, inspired by exotic resort destinations around the world. The company prides itself on using only the finest fabrics and exclusive, company- designed artwork for prints.
The Sacs In The City fashion show will be produced by Bouvier Productions. Tickets are $75, or table sponsorships starting at $1,500. There will also be a silent auction of designer handbags, travel and entertainment packages, and more. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 946-6466. Featured here is a selection of Tori Richard’s Fall 2006 line, as well as some vintage pieces from its archives. Tori Richard can be found in more than 2,500 department stores and specialty stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, Mexico, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.
