For teens all across the country, spring season also is prom season.

According to Vickie Wong, owner of Vows Bridal and Formals, the trends for prom dresses this year are high-low hemlines, short ball gowns, three-dimensional details such as flower accents, and layers of ruffles on the hemline. She also notes that full princess ball gowns are still a popular request.

After a disappointing experience with her own wedding in 1984, Wong opened her bridal and formal wear store in March 1985 with a goal of providing exceptional service, as well as a great selection that meets a variety of price ranges.

The store, located at 1249 S. Beretania St., also is known for its skillful alteration service, and recently expanded its formals and men’s department, adding more than 500-square-feet of space.

“Before shopping for prom, the parent and child must discuss on a price that is comfortable for them,” says Wong on her advice for teens still in search for their prom attire. “Do not fall in love with something that you do not wish to pay for. You will not be able to find a $500 gown for $150, therefore nothing else will match up and either you will end up spending more or have an unhappy girl. Also, do not pre-determine color choice. Design is more important than color, and manufacturers may not necessarily produce the color that you wish for. Be open-minded - the only way you know what you don’t want is by trying it on.”

Featured here are some of the newest designs available at Vows Bridal and Formals. For more information, call 591-6612 or visit: vowsbridalandformals.com.
