Music Profession: Music video producer/director of TRX TV.
Current happenings: I’m holding a Battle of the Bands on March 15, but the actual contest really takes place on youtube.com. All performances will be featured on TRX starting March 20 and loading up all performances around the same time on youtube.com, and at the end of four weeks, the band with the most plays will win the grand prize. The grand prize consists of TRX TV producing a music video for the winner, and that music video will be put into rotation on TRX TV and In Your Face TV.
What are the top requested videos on TRX? Jasmine Trias - Excuses; Melanie - My Perfect Love;Parc Cyde - Greentrees; I.A. with B.E.T. - Dat Island Sound; Oshen - Jah Music,Jack Johnson - Taylor; Jasmine Trias -
Sana Lagi; Paneawa - Waterfalls; Jasmine Trias - Lose Control; Gym Class Heroes - Cupid’s Chokehold;Al Vegas - My Hood; and Krystilez featuring Ujena - Love Of My Life
What do you think is the biggest obstacle for musicians today? The biggest obstacle for artists today is getting radio airplay - not just here in Hawaii, but across the nation. It really takes signing onto a major label/distributor to get songs played on the radio. Don’t get me wrong - if a radio station gets thousands of calls and requests for a song, they will play it. But there are advantages today that artists didn’t have before, and that’s the Internet and myspace. I believe it was a TRX interview with Chuck D, and he said, “The best thing an artist can do today is have a website.” The Internet has made the world smaller, and now anyone can enjoy music from around the world.
Upcoming projects: I’m planning to hold an event at a venue (to be determined) once a month where artists can perform original songs, TRX will tape the performance and showcase it on TRX on OC-16 and TRX Oceanic Digital Channel 584.
