Musical occupation: program director
Can you describe what you do at the station?
I was the music director for 98.5 and Hot 93.9. Now I’m the program director for Hot 93.9. My duties are to oversee everything at the station. I’m there from 9 a.m. to 7 at night.
How did you get into the music business?
Bought a pair of Technics 1200s and started DJ-ing for a mobile disco, then clubs, then as a mixer on the radio.
What is your most memorable music gig?
DJ-ing with Three Plus at Aloha Stadium to open up for Janet Jackson and DJ-ing in Japan last month where I toured five cities.
Where can you be spotted gigging?
Catch me on Hot 93.9 every weekday from 5 to 6 p.m. mixing The Drive at 5. On Wednesdays I’m at Dave & Busters. On Thursdays at Tsunami’s, near Wal-Mart. Fridays at Tsukiji’s in Ala Moana Center and Saturdays at W Hotel or various events.
What do you think makes Hawaii’s music scene unique?
So many nationalities and cultures here.
What do you think sets you apart from other DJs out there?
I kind of play to whatever crowd I have and just get people in the groove and get people dancing.
Do you have a signature style or sound?
At station events I play stuff on the radio and club stuff. Thursdays I play at Tsunami’s ‘80s and old school. I used to do trance music before. I play everything. But I like playing R&B and groove music.
What are your goals musically?
To make Hawaii a bigger market musically.
