When half time comes around on Saturday at the U.S. Army American Bowl in San Antonio, Christopher Bright will bring a new generation of Windward’s musical Bright dynasty into the spotlight. From a pool of 1,000 nominees, the Kamehameha senior was picked to play drums at the halftime show. In the stands at the 65,000-seat Alamodome, shivering with pride, will be his parents Clarke and Lynell Bright, and grandparents Ron and Mo Bright. Chris also added percussion to his granddad’s Paliku Theatre shows, such as Miss Saigon and West Side Story ...
A memorial service is planned Friday at St. Andrew’s Cathedral for Chris Pablo, a Kaneohe resident who advocated for organ donations long after he survived leukemia with help from a bone marrow transplant in 1996. He succumbed to new cancer growth last month at age 59. A college fund has been established for sons Nathan and Zachary at Bank of Hawaii and is available for donations now ... Representing Castle High in February at the state Brown Bags All Talent Competition will be Tehina Letson (music division), Six Pak (Chris Diprete, Chazz Dumlao, Ian Aquino, Kayla Kamisato, Jennifer Kuleci and Cheyenne Lawes (dance). The Knights clearly have the talent. Another Castle band, Kolohe Kai, has a radio-request hit in Ehu Girl. Members are Roman DePeralta, Jordan Agustin, Noah Cronin, Ryan Eastham and Jasmine Moikeha. Their CD is in music stores now ...
Joshua Harr (Kalaheo 2006) has graduated from Army basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. ... Alan Yee Jr. of Waimanalo is a new agent with New York Life Insurance Co. in Honolulu.
Alan has a science degree from UH, and he and wife Jolene are parents of Alan Yee III. Blues singer Boogie gets down with a solo show at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at HPR’s Atherton studio (955-8821). Boogie was born in Germany, but has settled in Kailua where he’s a musician by night and elementary schoolteacher by day. Hurry up - he sells out fast
