Kailua amateur photographer Phil Chase took a photo of Pali Lookout from Ho’omaluhia, put it on Flickr and - voila! - it’s now in the digital travel guide, Schmap Honolulu, 12th Edition. That’s something the DOE librarian didn’t have in his repertoire before he retires. Now Phil has time to be a ferroequinologist. (Look it up in an online dictionary) ...

The Marine base honored Kailua civilian Bob Porter, 85, on his retirement this month after 67 years of service to the Corps. In uniform, Bob fought in World War II (Guadalcanal), Korea and Vietnam and was the first sergeant-major at the Kaneohe air station. He followed that with 37 years in community services at the base, co-founded the Windward Community FCU, and has generally helped and supported everyone he can.
