When Benchmark-Turtle Bay CEO Bob Boyle died suddenly on Sept. 17, it stunned everyone, including the folks at Kahuku Library, which Bob supported enthusiastically. “It was all about his tenacity in helping us get our wheels on the road,” says head librarian Fran Cor-coran. “Without the Turtle Bay money, the donations couldn’t have turned a touring bus into a bookmobile, or kept it on the road with gas and maintenance fees.” It’s chugging along with about $10,000 more for the bookmobile fund that came from Bob’s employees in his memory ...

Melanie Boudar, whose Sweet Paradise Chocolatier was Kailua Chamber of Commerce’s best new business in 2009, is relocating her production kitchen from the Big Island to Lahaina, and she’ll open another retail shop in Wailea before Christmas. The Kainehe Street shop, meanwhile, still carries boxed treats like Coconut Curry, Wasabe Ginger Sesame and about 40 other flavors ...

Speaking of Mustangs, Kalaheo High librarian Martha Robertson (44 years) and vice principal Karen Kanda (40 years) threw their own retirement party in May on campus, inviting all teachers and staff. Guests donated $3,000 (in lieu of leis) to Kalaheo Foundation. The women joined the school when it was called Kalaheo Hillside Intermediate.
