The Pride of Hawaii, Norwegian Cruise Lines’ latest floating luxury, will be heading to the Islands from Germany soon, and dancers from Kaneohe’s 24-7 dance studio are already there preparing to entertain passengers on the long voyage back to home port. Besides studio director Marcelo Pacleb and choreographer Mark Kanemura,the troupe includes Cara Horibe, Heather Holmes, Natalie Vilos,Vanessa Vilos,Yoori Kim, Jon Veles and Jordan Ofoia. They will be dancing on “the largest U.S.-flagged ship ever built” ... Bob Smith took four of his best Windward fighters to the Muay Thai Kickboxing Tournament in Las Vegas recently, and he’s proud of their performance against bigger, older kickboxers. Castle High’s Kaipo Cayetano, 16, knocked out his 27-year-old opponent in 32 seconds (and will fight again Saturday at Sea Life Park in Punishment in Paradise). Brother Bronson Cayetano, 14, and Dean Henze, 15, won their matches by TKO, and Jacob Smith, 12, lost by decision against a 16-year-old. Kaneohe students Rachel Yoshizu and Aubrey-Loren Nakagawa made the fall dean’s list at Azusa Pacific University in California.Rachel studies applied health and Aubrey is a nursing major (and Castle High graduate) ... Darlene Cruz-Clark of Kaneohe is ahead of those two: She just received her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy right here at Argosy University ... After all this bad weather, guess who’s playing at the Kaneohe Relay for Life Friday night at Windward Community College? Hot Rain ... Mark Lutwak‘s mission is to convert Islanders into accordion fans, and the Kaneohe man’s fingers have been flying: Last week at Anna Bannana’s and Ward Warehouse; this Sunday it’s Bishop Museum at noon with Kupa’aina for Maoli Arts Month. Kapiolani Community College’s Koa Gallery has bestowed its 2006 Lifetime Achievement in Visual Arts award on Kailua print-maker and teacher Dodie Warren ... Our editor Don Chapman, a Kaneohe food fan, is grazing on better lunches these days and has lost 12 pounds since Thanksgiving. He says it’s from a regular diet of 1/2 pound poke and one California roll “hold-the-avocado” at Masa & Joyce. In fact, the staff there now calls his combo The DC Special ... Kelii Aoyagi (Kalaheo ‘05) has finished basic Air National Guard training at Lackland AFB ... Kailua’s Clint Churchill must be feeling good now that they’ve finally broken ground for the Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island (it should open Dec. 7). Clint heads the museum board, which has raised $13.1 million to tell the story of military aviation to the world ... Turtle Bay golf pros Matt Hall and Kevin Carll finished in the money ($425 each) at the Aloha Section PGA championship at Hokulia March 19-20 ... Waiahole tale teller Emil Wolfgramm concludes a four-part series on the cosmogony from Tonga with The Ocean Land at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Honolulu Academy of Arts (532-8701) ...

The March 12 Parade magazine listed all those people who make more money than you and I. There’s a rather wide range, too. For example, Parade says that Kaneohe resident Malia Delapena (on the cover, no less) makes $10,000 a year as a part-time belly dancer, and a Los Angeles actress named Reese Witherspoon (heard of her?) makes $30 million ... Freddie Davis (Kahuku ‘98) reported this week to Fort Knox, Kentucky, for active duty in the Army Reserve. The same day, Jody Pu U (Kalaheo ‘01) reported to Fort Leonard Wood for active duty in the Army ... Paul Brennan is the perfect guide for historic tours in Maunawili. He’s done archeological surveys of the area and he lives there, too. Paul’s tour Saturday (see calendar) includes Queen Lili’uokalani’s retreat and other hot spots of the 1840s to 1940s. Paul wasn’t around for the first few years, but he’s been known to show up as Abe Lincoln on occasion ... On April 7, five Windward artists and their creations will be in the Mendonca Building courtyard (which Lanikai landlord JoDee Hunt proudly notes made the official First Friday map at last).
