Food Safety with Chef Henry Food Cop, the first in his series of Wednesday night programs on food handling tips. To engage the viewer, Henry offers music videos like The Kukae Cop and The Shigetts, as well as news segments like Your Daily Bug Allowance. “I thought I would present it in a fashion that would keep the public’s attention,” he explains. The new Marine base chaplain, Catholic priest Richard House, carries a red-and-yellow water bottle with him wherever he goes. As he explained in his first letter to base residents, it was treatment for cancer 12 years ago that “fried my saliva glands and left me without much spit.” But he has plenty to say in between gulps from his trusty bottle: “I’m really not concerned whether your journey leads you to Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Moses, or anyone else I may have forgotten,” he writes. “Wiccan, agnostic or atheist - it matters little to me. Kailua-raised Yasmeen Sulieman has joined the cast of Hi5 on The Learning Channel, to be filmed in Australia this fall. Already a trouper in that children’s show is CPAC’s Kimee Balmalero from Kaneohe. Yasmeen’s brother Sterling performs on the Disney Channel, and has just earned his degree from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television ... Daniel Chaves of Kaneohe has graduated from the Army ROTC Leader’s Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky. Daniel is attending Central Washington University ... While Windward architect Stephen Meder serves on the Kailua Urban Design Task Force, he is also working to cool down the DOE’s 1,500 steaming-hot portable classrooms. Steve and his team at the Center for Smart Building and Community Design have some solutions to share, and it’s more about the setting than the structures. “In Hawaii,” he tells Sea Grant’s newsletter, “we are too often more comfortable standing next to our buildings than in them” ...
