A noted Kaneohe artist, Toni is professor of art at Windward Community College where she’s known for nurturing students to explore their potential in a fun and relaxed atmosphere ... Earlier this year, Enchanted Lake resident Bion Griffin won the UH Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award. Speaking of hot dogs, Jack Hufstetler‘s dog upstaged the South Pacific cast during a recent rehearsal in Paliku Theatre. The tech director’s pooch trotted onto the stage while Steve Wagenseller was singing Some Enchanted Evening to Nellie Forbush (Maryn Good). Bev O’Sullivan reports that the Friends of Kailua Library sent five boxes of children’s books to Louisiana for keiki in the Baton Rouge disaster center: “Each box contained a note saying ‘with aloha from the children of Hawaii to the children of Louisiana” ... The revived Kava Festival will unfold once again from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Lyon Arboretum, featuring that special drink plus Kaneohe emcees Bruddah Sam and Lina Girl, and Windward music by Kupa’aina, Vaihi and many more ...
