As co-chair of the Hawaii Psychological Association’s Diversity Committee, Kaneohe psychologist Karuna Joshi-Peters helped the HPA win a national award for its “innovative, creative and significant activities” related to diversity in the profession ... Kahaluu’s Mark Towill and the rest of Roy Disney‘s Morning Light crew will be special guests at the traditional “Blessing of the Fleet” Saturday, when a long line of decorated boats and yachts will head offshore from Waikiki Yacht Club for the ceremony. A high school senior, Mark is the youngest on a crew that’s been hand-picked to sail Disney’s yacht in the TransPac race next July ... Tina Shaffer‘s social studies students at Kalaheo High - Taylor Cook, Jason Timm and Talon Wemple - invested $100,000 (pretend) in the stock market last fall and watched their nest egg grow to $124, 606.98 in 10 weeks. It was the largest portfolio increase among school teams in the “aggressive growth division” of the Hawaii Stock Market Simulation ... Funeral services were Saturday for Dr. William Henry Waddell, 98. A World War II veterinarian and one of the last of the genuine Buffalo Soldiers, he spent his last years peacefully in Kaaawa with his daughter’s family, writing books and giving advice on many topics. To me, the old soldier once said, ‘Buy lots of hulihuli chicken at once and throw it in the freezer for a rainy day.” The local NAACP awarded its first scholarship in his name Jan. 13 to Dominic Hart of Hawaii Baptist Academy
