A Husband’s Closet Skeletons

Del.icio.usWeekends at home are my sanctuary. After a long week at work, I look forward to a couple of days when I can pretty much do whatever I want.
Actually, in reality, it’s whatever my wife wants. It’s one of the many prices you pay in marriage.
For the most part, my wife is a good sport and recognizes that I work hard, so that whatever I decide to do on any given weekend, I have the freedom to do it. Still, it’s not like I’m single, so my activities are limited to family events. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
The problem seems to be when my wife decides to do something that I know will delay or conflict with my intentions for a relaxing day off. The other weekend I wanted to check out the collector’s show. Last year I purchased eight old watches for $299.
While that doesn’t sound like a bargain, among the eight watches was one that was worth $4,000. I know those kinds of finds are pretty rare, but you never know. That’s why I wanted to hustle over to the show ASAP so that I could scour the merchandise before anyone else.
My wife agreed to go, but she wanted to do one thing first. When she said she wanted to clean out her closet, I nearly passed out. My past experience with this kind of thing indicated that I might make it to the show in the year 2012.
Her first task was to reorganize all the gift-wrapping supplies she stores in there. That requires categorization of wrapping paper for specific holidays and events. Her next task was to organize all photos and photo albums stored in boxes. Naturally, there’s an obligation to browse the pictures.
I kept looking at my $4,000 bargain watch and started begging her to delay the project. I guess she sympathized with my anxiety and agreed to put the task aside. As I raced to the car, she said to wait for a “few” minutes, that she had something to do. I sugar-ly asked, “What, Honey?”
She replied,“Oh, I just have to clean out my purse.”
