A Manager’s No. 2 Concern

I recently had a checkup with my physician, and am going to forgo the medical privacy act so that I can discuss a subject that all of us middle-aged men have to face sooner or later.
No, it has nothing to do with Viagra - I’m talking about colon health.
Prior to my visit, I had a full blood workup performed and I am happy to report that all my numbers were in the normal range. Of course, I could weigh a lot less and should get more exercise than my current regimen of TV commercial break kitchen sprints and remote control arm curls.
I braced myself, anticipating a lecture from my doctor, who by the way, is really great. It’s more of a reality check lecture and relies heavily on guilt. I might as well be getting lectured by my mom, but hey, my doctor is doing what’s best for me.
He didn’t lecture me on diet and exercise, so I started to relax. That’s when he brought up the fact that I’ve reached the age where I have to be concerned about my colon. He explained to me that I would have to submit samples via these little test card kits.
There were three of these cards in an envelope and each card had a little area to write in my name and address. After the samples were complete, I was to mail the cards back to my doctor’s office. I filled out the information on the cards then tucked the envelope in my pocket. On my way home, I stopped at the store. Unbeknownst to me, the envelope had fallen out of my pocket. Suddenly, over the loudspeaker, I heard my name being called to report to the manager’s office.
I walked up and he was reading my name of the sample cards. “Are you Ron Nagasawa? You dropped this envelope in the store.” He flipped the cards over and suddenly realized they were stool sample kits. His face went pale and he threw it down as though it was on fire.
I couldn’t blame him for that, and as I left I said, “Just for the record, they’re not used.”
