I’d like to take this opportunity to switch hats, removing my columnist cap and putting my publisher hat on in order to make a few announcements about MidWeek.

First of all, I want to thank all our readers and supporters of our advertisers. It’s you folks who make this happen, and so successfully that we are entering our 22nd year of publishing. And as you know, since March we’ve been coming out twice a week. The demand from our readers and customers for more of everything MidWeek offers has been overwhelming.

Patty and Eddie Sherman

I do have one announcement that I’d rather not make. After years as Hawaii’s premier three-dot columnist, our own Eddie Sherman is stepping out of the spotlight. I recently had lunch with Eddie at which time he broke the news - in person, which in my book is a class act. He’s not retiring, in fact, far from it.

He’s embarking on a new and exciting venture along with his beautiful wife Patty.

His column in this issue will be his last, so please be sure to read it.

He will surely be missed, not only as the dean of the three-dotters, but as a man who has contributed to our insatiable hunger to know more about the lives of people we consider celebrities.  I liken him to the late Johnny Carson -  he knows everyone, and everyone knows him. Eddie has the ability, like Carson, to evoke the most personal and interesting stories from the “stars”.

Eddie is a local icon, and all of us here at MidWeek wish him the very best.

Now the good stuff. While we haven’t made a big deal out of it, I’d like to invite all of you to take a look at our completely redesigned website. It’s everything a newspaper website should be and more. It’s gotten rave reviews from people in the business, and traffic continues to increase on a daily basis. Troy Fujimoto, our web marketing manager, is the man behind the design and all the bells and whistles. Like MidWeek is your home newspaper, make MidWeek.com your home page.

You’ve also probably noticed how our classifieds section has grown. Nowhere else will you get the reach that MidWeek and MidWeek the weekend have. It gets results, and more and more people are turning to it for career opportunities, real estate listings, special services and automobiles.

2006 looks to be another exciting year for us. Expect more of the features you love and tremendous savings from your favorite stores and services. We’ll continue to mail MidWeek to you free of charge - the best deal in town.

Well, gotta put the columnist cap back on - my cell phone is ringing, and I think it’s my wife.
