Agent Ron Is On The Case

Del.icio.usWhen I was a kid, one of the things I coveted the most was my father’s briefcase. He was in the Army’s Counter Intelligence Corps and always wore civilian clothes. He dressed like Quentin Tarantino’s crew in the movie Reservoir Dogs.
It was ultra-cool to me, and he carried this thin brown leather briefcase. I could only imagine what was in there as he had lock-picking tools, and he was a pistol marksman and surveillance expert. As far as I was concerned, he was a secret agent, and in the ‘60s that was a big deal.
The closest I could come to having a briefcase like his was a Man From U.N.C.L.E. TV show spy toy briefcase. Maybe half of you reading this will remember agents Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryaken. I was actually more interested in Stephanie Powers, the Girl From U.N.C.L.E.
Anyway, today the thin briefcase is not practical, what with laptop computers and all. For the last four years, I’ve been carrying a black Kenneth Cole laptop backpack. It allows me to keep all my junk in there without it being a “man purse.”
Still, at 47 years old, I can’t really pull off the backpack college student look. I decided to finally get a real briefcase. I found a great deal - a Kenneth Cole gunmetal gray brushed aluminum laptop briefcase for under $100. I couldn’t wait to show it off to my “techie” col-leagues at work.
I transferred all my stuff over, which includes a bevy of my daily medications and vitamin supplements - two blood pressure medications, Lipitor, aspirin, vitamins and amino acids. The medicine containers fit well in the new briefcase - nice and organized.
As I left the other night I stopped in our composing room and they wanted to see my new briefcase. One guy handled it in admiration when I realized I had not spun the combination locks closed. He flipped open the latches (so much for the 007 combination!) and everyone stared into what looked like a portable Longs Drugs pharmacy.
They all pretended like they didn’t see it. I know what they were thinking, but I was just glad that none of the meds I take are the color blue or suppositories.
