This past Halloween actually posed an opportunity for my wife and me to don costumes. Not for Oct. 31, but for a private birthday party we were invited to a week before. It has been years since we both put on a costume, probably for good reason.
When we first started dating, we would go to costume parties all the time. I had great fun putting on a costume, most of which I made myself out of clothes and stuff I had lying around the house. That causes you to be a lot more creative, but to me some of the best costumes are homemade.
My wife was semi-freaked out when I told her we had to wear costumes to this party. While I knew exactly who I was going to be, Jake Blues of the Blues Brothers, she didn’t have a clue to what she wanted to dress as. Due to the lack of time, she decided to just go out and buy one.
I accompanied her and we noticed a big trend in costumes for women. They all had one thing in common: They were made to make the wearer look sexy. There was sexy nurse, sexy vampire, sexy firefighter, sexy schoolteacher and on and on. That being said, the selection was limited.
My wife decided to assemble her own costume and be a police officer to kind of go with my costume. She bought a costume police hat, a toy badge and a pair of cop bracelets better known as handcuffs. She then went out and bought an outfit that looked like a uniform.
When she put it all on she was a sexy cop. Not intentionally, but she looked pretty hot. Anyway, we had great fun at the party and our costumes were a hit. We got home quite late so we literally threw our costumes off and went to bed. A few days later our daughter was sitting on our bed doing homework.
She felt something under her so she reached down and pulled out the pair of handcuffs. She held it up looking at my wife and me and said, “Oh, gross.” I swiped it out of her hand, then held them up and looked at my wife with both my eyebrows raised and asked in a somewhat begging way, “Honey?”
Without even looking at me my wife replied, “In your dreams, pal.”
