Del.icio.usI believe I’ve mentioned in past writing that my kid brother lives four houses down from mine. One of the benefits is that he lets me park my car in his garage. My garage is full of storage and junk.
My brother is out of the country right now on vacation. Anyway, last week I walked to his garage to get my car so I could go to work. I pressed the button on my remote and it wouldn’t open the garage door. I pressed it several more times but nothing happened.
It’s like pressing the button to get an elevator. You only have to press it once - pressing it over and over does not speed up the elevator nor does it fix a remote that doesn’t work. It was getting late and, since I live only a few minutes away from Foodland, I literally ran over to get a new battery.
The remote still didn’t work. Now I had to run home, get my brother’s house key and go into the garage through his house. I got my car out but I couldn’t close the door using the remote. I had to close it from the inside and run out before the garage door closed on me, avoiding the electric-eye safety mechanism that stops the door from closing.
Imagine me running full sprint, hurdling over an invisible beam and avoiding hitting my head on the overhead closing door. Now imagine me doing it five times before I was successful. The next day I was reading an article in the Star-Advertiser that explained this problem with garage remotes not working was widespread and caused by the many naval ships in port for the RIMPAC exercises.
At least I wasn’t going out of my mind. It’s a good thing the RIMPAC didn’t affect my TV remote. If it did, COMPACFLT (Commander U.S. Pacific Fleet) and I would definitely be having words.
