What do you want first, the good news or the bad news? Well, the good news is there is no bad news. What you hold in your hands right now is the premiere issue of MidWeek printed on our state-of-theart presses in beautiful Kapolei.
The first thing you may have noticed is our compact size. This puts us in the company of another nationally loved publication, Parade Magazine. Besides the trim, contemporary look, we are saving a lot of paper - something everyone would agree is a good thing.
Next up is our logo. Art director Gina Lambert took old and new to combine them into a familiar yet clean, concise and memorable brand. It’s less intrusive and definitely lets the cover photography showcase more of what you’ll find inside.
For the first time in my 13 years of writing this column, my picture is in color! In fact, now we can have color on every page. And it’s in register, or “in focus,” as so many of you have wished for. The color is vibrant and is the newspaper equivalent of going HD. We’ve expanded one of our most popular features, Honolulu Pa’ina. Now every week we’ll be able to run multiple events with photos of your friends, family and colleagues. It’s become known as the social pages of Oahu, the must-be place to be seen.
The one thing you won’t find is our TV listings. It’s been a convenient service for thousands of residents and television viewers, but we’ve found over the years that we simply can’t list all the channels to satisfy the needs of every reader.
Because of the shorter page size, we would have had to cut even more channels, and even reducing the size of the listings would really be a disservice to all of you. So please, if you can’t find the TV listings in MidWeek, don’t call us to ask where it is. Instead, pick up a copy of the newly designed Honolulu Star-Advertiser. I guarantee you’ll not only find a comprehensive TV listing, but a bevy of the latest news, sports and entertainment articles written and photographed by the most talented daily newsroom staff ever assembled in the state of Hawaii.
So it’s all good and in line with what MidWeek has done for the past 26 years, bringing good news and shopping savings to your home every week, absolutely free.
