Del.icio.usAfter two years of living on her own, my mom has decided that she would like to move back in with my family. She was living with us since we bought the house, but two years ago she wanted to try living by herself in her own place. We found a nice townhouse two minutes away from us.
My sister, brother and I split paying the rent so she wouldn’t be burdened financially by the decision. I think she was fine the first year, but started missing the hustle and bustle of her grand-kids and just being around family.
My wife and I have zero problems with her moving back in. Actually, the only problem I had was making room and then physically having to move all her stuff back into the house. She intended to have someone move her, but that fell through, and my brother and I were the backup plan.
Oh, yeah, she was moving into our space upstairs above our garage.
Now my brother and I can handle the move, but we’re not exactly the strapping young boys she had when we lived in Wahiawa. I don’t condone this, but when my kid brother and I get together our language gets pretty raw and rude. Nearly every other word consists of four letters.
Just as we got started, our sister dropped off her 15-year-old son to help us. Needing to set a good example for our nephew, the swearing had to cease - or rather we had to use substitute swear words. We sounded like the movie Pulp Fiction playing on TBS.
As we carried a couch up to the second floor, my hand got caught between it and the wall. I yelled, “Son of a beehive!” and dropped the couch, which landed on my brother’s foot. “You fudge head!” he yelled back. I retorted, “It wasn’t my fault you piece of shiitake mushroom!”
Of course, I don’t think we were fooling our nephew for one minute.
He looked at us, laughed and said, “No disrespect, uncles, but you guys need to grow up.”
