Sticking Around The House

This is the last installment of the Nagasawa “stay-at-home” vacation. It wasn’t all fun and games with the family as I had a bunch of repairs and such that needed to be completed around the house and with my truck.
On one afternoon, I “passed” on going out with my wife’s entire family. That was so I could work on my faithful old truck, a black ’95 Dodge Ram. I have nearly 140,000 miles logged on it so I try to take care of “her” as best as I can — ‘til death do us part, you know.
I was home by myself and decided that I was going to fix what is probably one of the most important components in any vehicle — the dashboard slide-out cup holder.
In my book, that one feature is as important as the engine. As every commuter knows, trying to hold a scalding hot cup of coffee between your legs while driving is an accident waiting to happen. Cup holders are like cell phones — don’t know how we got along before we had them.
Anyway, a plastic piece had broken off in the slide mechanism. I figured some Super Glue would do the trick. I applied copious amounts to the piece, thinking it was like Elmer’s Glue. I laid on the bench seat while I stuck my right hand in to hold the piece in place in the dashboard. Idiot that I am, the glue runoff literally fused my fingers onto the inside of the dashboard. I could not get my fingers off it lest I tear my skin, nor could I use my other hand to help pry it off. I lay there in the hot cab of the truck, with no one around to help me.
My cell phone was in my right jeans pocket and I tried to fish it out with my left hand only to get my left hand stuck in my right pocket. I looked like a cross between a beached whale and a pretzel.
I lay there for what felt like hours when my kid brother drove up.
I was drenched in sweat and his only comment was, “Need some help?” Good thing he came along, because I needed to use the bathroom and was this close to gnawing my hand off.
