Straddling Hot Summer Movies

One of the many benefits of being the publisher of MidWeek is that we’re associated with many events to which I have access. Take movie premieres, for example. Usually we get tickets that we use for our Hot Ticket movie reviewer, customers and clients, or I use for employee drawings.

Occasionally, a movie premiere comes along that I know my family would enjoy. With all the summer releases, there was bound to be one we would take in. The other week we were one of the sponsors for Disney’s Herbie: Fully Loaded with Lindsay Lohan.

It was at the Signature Theatres Dole Cannery location, which was great because they have the stadium seating. I snagged a couple of tickets so my wife, our 8- year-old daughter and one of her friends could go. It looked to be a fun evening.

When we arrived, the movie was really crowded and the concession lines looked as though they were giving out free steak and lobster dinners. We decided to grab our seats and then, during the previews, I would go back out and get everyone refreshments.

Our seats were smack in the middle of the second row above the aisle. We were packed in from both sides with people. Now, one of the things I hate doing is passing in front of people seated in a theater, so I had to figure out a way to get out and get our popcorn.

Luckily, there were some empty seats in front of us, I believe reserved for disabled movie patrons. I figured I would jump the seats and make my way to the concession stand. I lifted one leg over, but misjudged the depth of the floor as I forgot about the stadium seating.

I lost my footing on my back leg and ended up straddling the seat back like I was riding a horse. Needless to say, I was in excruciating pain. It wouldn’t have been so bad except that when I finally ordered our popcorn and sodas, my voice was 20 octaves higher and I nearly shattered all the glass in the lobby.
