The Thanksgiving TV Dinner

Del.icio.usThe Nagasawa family has so much to be thankful for - we’re very fortunate, so I take nothing for granted. Still, I have to rant a bit about our recent Thanksgiving celebration - since I kind of ended up being the turkey.
Thanksgiving shouldn’t be a stressful day, but it is because of all the stuff I need to get done before I can plop myself in front of the TV with a plate full of food. Since the family comes over to our house for dinner, my wife is in cleaning and cooking mode to the “max.”
I need to contribute on the cleaning end, so we’re up bright and early on a day when we really should still be catching some “Zs.” I also take flowers and visit the graves of our family members who have passed on. I also stop in at work to help serve a Thanksgiving meal to our crews who have to work.
It’s a company tradition headed up by our HR director and her husband. We’re thankful that the press, distribution and prepress people are working hard during the holidays to keep our business going. With all of this happening, it leaves me little time to focus on my main mission.
That mission was to set up our living room TV so we can watch football and UH Wahine volleyball. We recently got a new couch, so I had to disconnect all the wiring on the TV in order to rearrange the furniture. Putting off the reconnection until Thanksgiving day was my mistake.
Not that I use them, but the instruction manuals for all the equipment were nowhere to be found. What with a surround sound speaker system, a DVD player and a cable box DVR recorder, I had more wires to deal with than a NASA space shuttle engineer. I was also way past launch time.
Don’t know what happened, but I couldn’t get the TV to work. We all ended up crowding in the kitchen gathered around our smallest and oldest TV, a 13-incher. The good thing was, we were nearer to the food, and the family was never closer together than this on a holiday.
