I write this so that my doctor knows that I have embarked on a regular exercise plan. As I mentioned the other week, our son has gone on a three-week mission to the Marshall Islands to learn their culture and to teach English and math. Our family misses him tremendously.

In order to get my wife and his 8-year-old sister out of the slump, I decided that we would take a nice walk every evening when I got home from work. We don’t live very far from a Blockbuster Video store, so I made that our nightly destination.

That way, I could return and rent DVDs for when I switch into couch potato mode. I guess it’s the equivalent of drinking a Diet Coke while eating a pizza.

Anyway, we took our walk and entered Blockbuster. When we got in, I heard my wife let out a big “gasp.”

She then faced our daughter, put her hands on her shoulders and whispered something. Our daughter looked toward the checkout counter and then squealed the way little girls do when they see a cute boy. I looked in the same direction, but only saw a guy with long hair and a close beard.

I turned to my wife and said, “What?” Under her breath she said that the guy behind the counter was a dead ringer for “Bo Bice.” I replied loudly, “Who the heck is Bob Ice?” They both “shushed” me and said that he looked like Bo Bice from American Idol.

Every time he looked at us they started giggling or would duck out of his line of sight. I shook my head and got my DVD.

We went to the checkout and lo and behold, Bo Bice II was there. My girls were getting giddy and I turned to them and said, “For crying out loud, get a grip.

“That’s not even the real Bo, just someone who looks like him.”

As we exited the store I held the door open for a pretty young woman. She flashed me a huge smile, and my wife asked, “What was that all about?”

I said, “Nothing, I just thought she was Paula Abdul.”
