Del.icio.usIt is more confusing then ever to buy a new computer. The options and accessories seem endless. Which processors Intel or AMD? Single core, dual core or quad core. Sata or IDE drives, the lists go on. What did all that stuff mean? Well if you don’t know you’re not alone. You still can get a computer that fits your individual needs without knowing all this new hi-tech advances in computers. First you must decide on what the computer will be used for. A basic computer is fine for people that want email and surf the web. Graphic computers are designed for the latest computer games and can also edit photos and videos. Business computers are best designed with extra hard drives for backup, and built with quality computer parts that can be easily replaced in case of some hardware failure. Also very important and normally overlooked is your past bad experiences with computers or service. Did you loose all your data? Was your computer too slow? Did you receive poor service and support? What programs are you going to run? Do they run on Windows Vista or do I still need Windows XP? If possible find a professional computer consultant/ salesman/ technician that understands these needs.

First let’s talk about name brand computers. For the most part, name brand computers are designed that when they break, you buy a new one. Parts for name brand computers are often built only for that exact model computer you own, and replacement parts are only available from the manufacture. For example if you have a Sony, HP or Compaq, you must buy the parts from them (except the hard drive, memory). Often you can not buy the parts and have to send the entire computer to the maker for repair. Often the repair can cost more than buying a new one. The only major brand that you can easily buy replacement parts from is DELL. If buying a name brand, DELL can be built to order and extended warranty is often very reasonable. Custom built computers have endless possibilities. Computer cases are very stylish these days and come in many different colors and shapes. Gaming and business computers need cases that have many well placed fans to keep the system cool. Because of the faster speeds that motherboards, hard drives and video cards run, they need better cooling and ventilation. Computers running gaming video cards require certified power supplies. Video cards and multiple hard drives require power supplies that can maintain steady and even power. Video cards can be customized for games or run up to six monitors at one time (great for stock trading, graphic designing, accounting, etc). Have you ever noticed that your computer gradually runs slower and slower. The more data you install on a hard drive, the longer it takes to find that data when you need it. One solution is to have a separate hard drive for the operating system and a second hard drive for the data. Your data being pictures, videos, letters, etc.
If your operating system became corrupted or infected with a virus you wouldn’t lose your data with a reload of the opera ting system because it was on a separate hard drive. Your computer would run faster because you only have the operating system on the first hard drive. For extra protection of your data you can have two data hard drives. Each hard drive is an exact copy of the other hard drive. This is called a mirror Raid and is set to automatically copy. This is very useful when you have a hard drive go bad and can not be read.

Another reason to go with a custom system is multiple operating systems. You can run both Vista and XP on the same computer. Two reasons people don’t replace their computer. One is that the computer still runs, even if it runs slow or has errors. The second reason is they don’t know how to transfer off their old data to the new computer. Solution is that we accept trade in’s on your old computer and we can expertly transfer the data to the new computer. We can also wipe out any personal data off the old hard drive.
