Hannah Cornett trains for the bicycling portion of the Tag The World Charity Triathlon

tive director Judith Wilhoite earlier this year.

“Having worked in Kapolei with the kids, I thought it would be really neat to get involved with the children’s side of things,” Cornett says, the angel-winged tag she wears in support of the Hawaii-based charity draped around her neck. (It Takes An ‘Ohana receives a portion of sales from TTW’s Children jewelry.)

“TTW has a really strong Hawaiian base, which is another reason why we want to hold the triathlon here, to give back to the place that has given us the most,” Parks-Valletta adds. “Also, bringing in the foster kids and giving them the opportunity to work alongside celebrities and having something to look forward to - to work on a project together, maybe even keep in touch afterward - it just made sense.”

He has also used his connections to secure 15 celebrity-children teams, in which a big-time personality pairs with two keiki to form a three-man team that “tags off” on each segment of the triathlon. Those getting involved from the realm of TV, film, music and sports include Fergie, Laird Hamilton, Gabby Reese, Twilight heartthrob Ryan Eggold, Kellan Lutz from the new 90210, Michael Rosenbaum, Pauly Shore, Pau Gasol and Jordan Farmar of the NBA champion LA Lakers, Wilmer Valderrama, Mia Hamm and former Superman Dean Cain. Kaiser High School grad Darin Brooks and the cast of Days of Our Lives as well as Parks-Valletta’s sister, supermodel/actress Amber Valletta, will also be part of the Tag team.

Parks-Valletta teases that they have a special performance in store for the festival planned to follow the main event. There also will be massage booths to ease post-triathlon aches, T-shirt and craft booths, and fuel from Jamba Juice and other companies. Half of the sales made from the day go to It Takes An ‘Ohana.

“We’re looking to make a collaboration within the community for one goal,” Parks-Valletta says, adding that they are still looking for more volunteers and contributors. “It’s really exciting. This whole thing just started off as an idea, and things are just falling into place,” adds Cornett. “It’s a lot of hard work to get it going, and it hasn’t been easy. But it’s good to be busy.”
