The beneficiaries toast to health, success and happiness

the $1 million mark, which will all be turned over to the Department of Education and distributed to Hawaii’s 45 public high school athletic departments. And this boost couldn’t come at a better time, as high school athletics saw state allocations for supplies, equipment and transportation slashed by approximately $1.2 million, or 50 percent, from last year.

“There is a continuing need to support organizations like ours that rely on community support to survive,” Amemiya says. “Because The GIFT Foundation agreed to be one of the lead donors of our current SOS fundraising drive, it brought instant credibility to our efforts.”

In addition to the support garnered by The GIFT Foundation, the three beneficiaries have found allies in each other.

“In many ways we’re all interrelated,” Amemiya says. “We all have the ultimate goal of helping people - providing resources to individuals and families so they and their children have a fighting chance to lead successful and productive lives.”

“Not only is this going to help with our programs and help us deliver quality services, it really empowers people,” Anderson adds. “Through that awareness - through letting people know what the issues are and how they can help - they have the opportunity to say, ‘Hey, that’s something I care about, and that’s something I can help.’

“We really feel that when you bring that community together, that’s when some real special things happen and that’s when we accomplish the goals that we’re all trying to do.”

This looks like it could be the beginning of some very beautiful friendships.
