Missouri’s education department also has introduced programs in digital media and LEGO Robotics to area schools. The digital media program works to engage students in the history of the ship, while they work together creating video footage that depicts their knowledge of what was learned, its importance in history, and its benefits for the future.
USS Missouri’s LEGO Robotics program utilizes a LEGO Mindstorm NXT robotics set, applying concepts of math and science to real-world issues such as saving sea life.
Working together, all three programs and the atmosphere of being on USS Missouri is an opportunity not many school children around the world can experience.
“I learned that CAD is used in designing different parts and other types of mechanisms, even parts that we saw onboard the ship today. The workshop would help with robotics programs and has inspired me to become involved with robotics programs in our school,” says seventh-grade King Intermediate student Inoa Robello.
