“A lot of us (who play airsoft) used to be racers and drifters, and now that the track is closed I see a lot more of the ex-racers playing airsoft,” he says. “Airsoft is like cars in that you get to build things. You can collect and build guns, but it’s not dangerous because it’s not real.

“It’s also exciting because there’s the hunt and chase aspect. It’s like being in an arcade game. It’s very similar to a first-person shooter game like Halo or Socom.

“I used to play paintball too, but the gear is real bulky. Airsoft is a lot more compact, so it’s much more easy to move around, and it’s cheaper.”

Places to play airsoft: Wicked West Nanakuli Open twice a month, on Sundays. Private games available by appointment.
