Three cheers for Team MidWeek! Hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!
It was a great moment for Team MidWeek when we took first place at Hawaii’s first-ever Ravenchase Adventures hunt earlier this month. Not only was it great for bragging rights, but we also took home the prestigious golden chicken and treasure chest, which is now proudly displayed in our office.
More than just winning, however, the race itself is reason enough to want to do it again.

In fact, I already spoke to a few of my girlfriends to put together a team for the upcoming race in January.
So what exactly is Ravenchase Adventures?
It’s an exciting scavenger hunt and adventure race that takes you through historic sites, museums, parks and more. The objective is to solve riddles, encounter planted actors and use gadgets and guts to outwit your opponents. There is even a riddle each team needs to solve to figure out where the meeting point will be. From there each team is given a handmade treasure map and brilliant clue, which will aid in finishing the race.

The starting point for our race: Aloha Tower. Everyone gathered for instructions, signed a liability waiver and then received the map and clues.
We were instructed that we could solve the clues in any order, that we had one free call for a hint if we got stuck, any calls after the first call adds 20 minutes to your finishing time, and throughout the town are little colored gems, each worth 20 minutes deducted from your time.
Ready, set, go!
Some teams ran off right away and others (like ourselves) hung out to figure out at least one of the clues to ensure we were headed in the right direction.
With my 1-year-old daughter in tow, we jetted off through the streets of downtown Honolulu, stopping shortly at the place where we and another three or four teams thought to hold the answer to the first clue. Some scoured bushes, others searched through the fountain and, all in all, it seemed that no one could figure out the answer. After about 10 minutes we decided to move on and return to it later.
So we hurried off, leaving behind a number of other teams to ponder the mind-boggling first clue. We were off to a slow start, however, determined and hungry for a win we managed to zip through the rest of the clues.
We made another six or so stops, encountered actors along the way and even collected three of the six hidden gems. It was a challenge of wits, endurance, teamwork and we even learned a thing or two about some important landmarks.
We finished in 1 hour and 43 minutes and with our three gems
