Sponsors of the 15th annual Sunburn Classic invite skaters to enter the contest by downloading the form, and then showing up at Mililani Skate Park at 9 a.m. Saturday.

“It’s good competition and a good time,” said marketing coordinator Michelle Cabalse. The event is presented by Heavywater magazine in cooperation with T&C Skateboards and Dakine brands

There are four divisions: 13 and under, 14 to 17 years old, 18 and over, and a sponsored division. Last year’s youngest participant was 5 years old.

“The event is kind of known for the product sponsors,” said Cabalse. “They are really supportive of events like this. We reward kids who are picking up trash. They can come to the van and get prizes like hats, T-shirts, wheels, bearings and all kinds of stuff. We reward kids not only for performing but for being responsible. So even if the kid isn’t a great skater, they can glide around with their friends and they will still come away with something good in their hands. I think it encourages the kids a little bit more to be responsible.”

More than three dozen product lines will be represented at the event. Dakine’s pro skate team will perform a demonstration for the crowd, and they will autograph anything the skaters want to bring down, such as a backpack or a notebook. Professional skaters Chris Haslam, Brent Atchley, Sierra Fellers and Paul Machnau also will have free posters to sign.

“The event is on the first Saturday after the break, so it’ll be great to get out and skate a little bit,” predicted Cabalse.

A parent needs to sign the form if the skater is under 18 years old. Entries on the day of the competition will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The skate park is located at Mililani District Park on Lanikuhana Avenue.
