A new eatery opened its doors Dec. 18 at the brand new Gateway at Mililani Mauka North, giving Mililani Mauka residents a close-to-home restaurant option, aside from McDonald’s.

Located next to the hamburger chain, Poke Stop has created quite a buzz. The new Mililani location is the second of Poke Stop restaurants on Oahu - the first opened two years ago in Waipahu.

Chef and owner Elmer Guzman is thrilled with the new place, and Mililani Mauka patrons feel the the same way.

“Castle & Cooke employees would always come to our Waipahu restaurant, and they told me that Mililani would be a great place for us,“said Guzman.“So I came here to look at the place, and I basically said, ‘Sign me up.’ So if it wasn’t for the Castle & Cooke gang telling me that this would be a great opportunity for us, I would have looked more into the Ewa Beach and Kapolei area, which are places closer to my home.”

In comparison, Mililani’s location is a bit larger than the Waipahu restaurant. Its larger kitchen and additional cooking equipment will serve to enhance the catering services, as well as in-store offerings.

Poke Stop offers a wide array of fresh poke, bentos, soups, sandwiches, salads and entrees. Menu mainstays are Asian Style Garlic White Shrimp, Tempura Fried Spicy Poke Roll, Seared Ahi Poke Bowls, Deconstructed Sushi Bowls, Chop Chop Salad w/ Smoke Meat, Tempura Soft Shell Crab Sandwich and Eggplant Fries.

Poke choices range from basic limu ahi poke and kim chee tako to furikake salmon and dried ahi.

“To me Mililani Mauka residents are well educated on food and they really understand this kind of food,” added Guzman.

Poke Stop is open daily, and serves breakfast on weekends. For more information, call 626-3400.

Tenants expected to join Guzman at Gateway are Nail Design, Pets R Us Too, Mililani Mauka Florist, Mililani Mauka Chinese Restaurant and New Genki Ramen II.
