Thanks to a partnership with A Catered Experience, Hawaii Meals on Wheels has expanded its deliveries to include the Mililani area, and it’s looking for more residents to serve.

“Because a lot of people aren’t aware we are in Mililani, we are still able to take on more clients,” said Kretia Pangelinan, program coordinator.“We have also been working with Lanakila because if they’ll be cutting in the Mililani area, then we’ll be more than happy to take those clients.”

The non-profit organization delivers hot, nutritious lunches and dinners on weekdays to elderly and disabled individuals. The service also provides regular personal contact, which is highly beneficial to many of the individuals who live alone.

The new route in Mililani is just the start of what Hawaii Meals on Wheels hopes to be a islandwide expansion. Other Oahu routes include Kalihi to Hawaii Kai, Pearl City, Aiea, Ewa, Kapolei, Kaneohe, Kailua and Waimanalo.

“We started with Mililani and we’re, hoping to expand to Wahaiwa soon,” said Pangelinan.“We were able to do this because of the partnership with A Catered Experience. Finding kitchens to prepare the meals is how we decide where to put new routes. The other partnered kitchens are hospitals and nursing homes.”

The program currently benefits about 300 people, with more than 150 volunteers on the road each week. The volunteer-based organization is primarily supported by client contributions, donations, and by some federal/state funding.

Residents interested in applying for the Hawaii Meals on Wheels program or those who would like to sign up as a volunteer, should call 988-6747. More information also is available at the group’s website, www.hmow.org
