Rainbow Watersports Adventures will mark the one-year anniversary of its Anahulu Stream cleanups by sponsoring another one at 8 a.m. June 26 at Haleiwa Beach Park.
Volunteers are asked to meet by the outrigger canoes, across from Jameson’s restaurant and bring gloves, trash bags, water shoes, a bucket and a smile.
The difference local volunteers have made is clear - clear water, clear stream banks and a clearer vision of what Haleiwa has to offer.
Before the cleanups began, plastic bags and tarps snaked their way around tree limbs, and hundreds of yards of trash, debris and black-plastic irrigation tubing tangled themselves along the banks. Today, said head instructor Heidi Burgoyne, a paddle down the river proves the stream a pristine and beautiful example of local volunteerism.
“It’s just amazing what one group of people in one day can do to a place,” she said. “There is still much to be done, but the more volunteers, the more we can do.” To offer help on future cleanups, call 372-9304 or visit www.anahulucleanup.com.
Paddlers of all ages also are welcome to help out, and SUP boards will be available for borrow during cleanups.
The company also begins stand up paddling classes, SUP FIT, for ages 15 and up at 6:45 a.m. this Saturday in Anahulu Stream. Balance Act’s Kass Hansen and local physical trainer Beccy Cravens, experienced health motivators, will conduct the one-hour, weekly sessions.
“We’re really excited about these lessons,” Burgoyne said.“It’s a really fun way to get fit, and we have excellent coaches leading the classes. It’s going to be a great time.”
To sign up, call 1-800-470-4964 or visit www.supfit.com for additional information.
