Below are some highlights of what’s happening in the Central Oahu community for the next few weeks.

* Area high school graduations include Leilehua at 6 p.m. June 2 on the school field; Waialua at 5:30 p.m. June 3 on the school field; Mililani at 5 p.m. June 4 at Aloha Stadium; and Waipahu at 6 p.m. June 4 at Blaisdell Arena.

* The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 9-mile intermediate ridge hike to the Pupukea summit at 8 a.m. June 4. Call 674-1459.

* The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct an eight-week Boating Skills & Seamanship course, beginning at 6:30 p.m. June 13 in the Mililani High School office building. Fee is 450 for materials. Register by June 2 at 622-1634.


* The Oahu Hongwanji Council holds an obon service at 2 p.m. June 3 in front of the immigrant monument at Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary. Call 677-4221.

* Na Lei Nani O Waialua Hula Halau performs at 4 p.m. June 4 at the Waialua Bandstand, sponsored by Surf-n-Sea of Haleiwa.

* Todd Sammons of UH-Manoa discusses Karen Hesse’s Newbery award-winning Out of the Dust at 6:30 p.m. June 7 at Mililani Library. Register at 627-7470.

* Thauna Abrin presents a lecture on “How to Detox Your Body” at 7 p.m. June 9 at Kaala Healing Arts, 66-261 Farrington Hwy. in Waialua. Fee is $15, including tasty samples. Call 386-2102.

* An interactive children’s show by Honolulu Theatre for Youth, Tales of Old Hawaii, is set for 10:30 a.m. June 10 at Mililani Library. Call 627-7470.

* A 3-on-3 basketball tournament is being planned for June 10 in Waipahu, co-sponsored by the Waipahu Community Association and HPD. Call 677-6939.

* Oceanic Family Day is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 11 in the Mililani High School stadium, featuring a mini carnival, games, booths and more. Entertaining are Na Leo Pilimehana, Kapena, Da Braddahs, the Next Generation, Mark Mauricio and more. The first 200 people to present their Kupaa Key-Z at the gate will receive a DVD of Da Braddahs & Friends (one per household)


* Mililani author Wendy Miyake discusses her book Beads, Boys and the Buddha at 6:30 p.m. June 14 at Mililani Library. The new book is a collection of short stories about “modern life in Mililani.” Call 627-7470.

* Emmy award-winning storyteller Bobby Norfolk performs Today’s Troubadour at 10:30 a.m. June 14 at Wahiawa Library. Call 622-6345.

* Early entries are due June 15 for the Schofield Barracks 4th of July 5K and Children’s 1-mile Fun Run. Call Vera Ross at 655-8789.

* Entries are due June 16 for the North Shore’s Raging Isle Sprint, set for 9 a.m. June 24 from Sunset Beach to Ehukai Beach Park. Call 372-8885.

* North Shore Artists Studio Tour - a team of six artists from Turtle Bay to Kaena Point - open their studios to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Tuesday. Call 637-8934 or log onto www.hawaiinorthshoreartists.com
