Below are some highlights of what’s happening in the Central Oahu community for the next few weeks.

* WAIMEA TALK Archaeological consultant Christopher Monahan discusses his traditional cultural property study of Waimea Valley for OHA at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 at Waimea Valley Audubon Center. Call 638-9199.

* BLOOD DRIVES The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts a donor drive from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at Wahiawa General Hospital; from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Mililani Town Center; and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m Sept. 27 at BYU-Hawaii in Laie. Call 845-9966.

* BOE MEETS The state Board of Education meets in the Central District Sept. 6, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Moanalua High School cafeteria and reconvening at 6:30 p.m. for public testimony. Call 586-3349.


* WAIAWA COMMENTS The State Land Use Commission seeks public comment by Sept. 7 on the proposed 1,500-unit Castle & Cooke master-planned community north of the Waipio interchange. Call 587-3822.

* DAIKON FEST Honbushin International Center hosts its free annual Daikon Festival from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 8 at 95-030 Waihonu St., Mililani. Call 623-7693.

* PSYCHIC FAIRS Intuitive Entertainment conducts psychic fairs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 8 and 9 at the Mililani Town Center (by Loco Moco). Call 239-2574.

* BENEFIT SALE Mililani Music Boosters conduct a benefit garage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 8 on the school lanai. Call 625-5333.

* HIKE The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 2-mile intermediate hike/wade in Kaukonahua stream at 8 a.m. Sept. 8. Go to http://www.htmclub.org

* TAI CHI The Kaiser Waipio Clinic conducts tai chi classes at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 12-Nov. 14. Non-member fee is $52. Call 432-2270.

* NEIGHBORS The Wahiawa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at Wahiawa District Park; the Mililani Mauka-Launani Valley board meets at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Mililani Mauka Elementary cafeteria; the North Shore board meets at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Alii Beach Park; and the MililaniWaipio-Melemanu board meets at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Mililani Rec Center III. * MOON WALK Waimea Falls Audubon Center plans a Moon Walk from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m Sept. 21 featuring the sights and sounds of the valley. Bring a flashlight. Tickets are $5 and $3. Call 638-9199.

* HOMECOMING The Mililani High School homecoming parade marches through the community Sept. 21, starting at 1 p.m. at Mililani Town Center and ending in the school stadium. Call 627-7373.

* ARTS The Mililani Arts and Food Festival is set for 5:30 to 10 pm. Sept. 22 at Mililani Golf Course. Tickets are $40 and $20, with proceeds benefiting Oahu Arts Center. Call 630-2296.

* POLO The Hawaii Polo Club hosts competitive matches at 2 p.m. each Sunday through the end of September at Mokuleia Polo Field. The Women’s Challenge Cup is Sept. 9, and the USPA Hall of Fame Challenge is Sept. 16. Gates open at 11 a.m. Admission is $8. Call 637-8401.

* POWER TOUCH Kaiser’s Senior Summit series presents “Nurturing the Power of Touch for the Elderly” at 10 a.m. Sept. 26 at the Waipio Clinic. The public is welcome at the free massage class. Call 432-3235.

* SELF-DEFENSE The Kaiser Waipio Clinic conducts a class in personal safety and self-defense from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 29 and Oct. 20. Non-member fee is $44. Call 432-2270.

* WAIALUA ART Waialua Library presents an exhibit by four local artists now through Oct. 31. Call 637-8286.


* WAIPIO MARKET Kaiser Waipio Clinic hosts a “fresh day” market of healthy food and produce from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Wednesday at 94-1480 Moaniani St. Call 432-2270.

* MILILANI MARKET Mililani High School hosts a Farmers Market from 8 to 11 a.m. Sundays in the gym parking lot. Call 848-2074.

* YOGA Jasmiine Yoga offers daily yoga classes for all ages at the Weinberg Community Center in Waialua. Call 561-9639.

* TOASTMASTERS The Pineapple Toastmasters Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday at Sgt. Yano Library at Schofield. Those who want to improve their public speaking are welcome. Call 622-0169.
