Below are highlights of what’s happening in the Central Oahu community for the next few weeks.

* Mililani author Wendy Miyake discusses her book Beads, Boys and the Buddha at 6:30 p.m. June 14 at Mililani Library. The new book is a collection of short stories about “modern life in Mililani.” Call 627-7470.

* Emmy award-winning storyteller Bobby Norfolk performs Today’s Troubadour at 10:30 a.m. June 14 at Wahiawa Library. Call 622-6345.

* Early entries are due June 15 for the Schofield Barracks 4th of July 5K and Children’s 1-mile Fun Run. Call Vera Ross at 655-8789.

* Doug Beter presents a talk and demonstration of his Rainbow Pigeons at 1 p.m. June 15 at Wahiawa Library. The Friends of Wahiawa Library also present movie matinees throughout the summer for all ages. Call 622-6345.


* Entries are due June 16 for the North Shore’s Raging Isle Sprint, set for 9 a.m. June 24 from Sunset Beach to Ehukai Beach Park. Call 372-8885.

* Haleiwa Jodo Mission holds its bon dances at 8 p.m. June 16 and 17 at 66-279A Haleiwa Road. Call 637-4382.

* Waialua Library presents “Pets Have Feelings, Too,” a program of storytelling, videos and activities with the Hawaiian Humane Society, at 10 a.m. June 17 at the Waialua Bandstand. Call 637-8286.

* The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 17 and July 1 at Mililani Town Center; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 18 at Waikele Center. Call 845-9966.

* Moses Pakaki conducts Uli Uli (gourd rattle) workshops from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 17, 24 and July 22 at Hawaii’s Plantation Village. Fee is $15. Call 677-0110.

* The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 9-mile hike to the Schofield-Waikane ridge at 8:30 a.m. June 18. Call 674-1459.
