Below are some highlights of what’s happening in the Central Oahu community for the next few weeks.

* WAIALUA EVENTS July children’s programs at Waialua Library feature Harry Potter Week activities July 15-21; and the summer reading finale at 10 a.m. July 21. Call 637-8286.

* LIBRARY FLICKS Wahiawa Library screens a free “mystery” film at 6 p.m. July 17 (finale). Door prizes and refreshments are also planned. Call 622-6345.


* RACING PIGEONS Waialua Library (67-068 Kealohanui St.) hosts “Rainbow Pigeons with Doug Beter,” a lecture-demonstration on colorful racing pigeons at 10 a.m. July 21. The program concludes with the release of Rainbow Pigeons into the sky. For all ages. Call 637-8286.

* BLOOD DRIVE The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts a donor drive from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 21 at Mililani Town Center. Call 845-9966.

* NEIGHBORS The Mililani Mauka-Launani Valley board meets at 7 p.m. July 17 at Mililani Mauka Elementary School cafeteria; and the Mililani-Waipio-Melemanu board meets at 7:30 p.m. July 25 at Mililani Rec Center III; Call 527-5749.

* MAGIC Uncle Wayne Watkins and Magic Mark Kroll present The Magic of Reading at 6:30 p.m. July 18 at Mililani Library. Puppets, comedy, magic with a message and more are in store for children age 5 and older. Call 627-7470.

* BON DANCES Haleiwa Jodo Mission’s bon dance is at 8 p.m. July 20-21 at 66-279A Haleiwa Road (637-4382); and the Wahiawa Ryusenji Soto Mission bon dances start at 7:30 p.m. July 27 and 28 at 164 California Ave. (622-1429).

* ART FESTIVAL The 10th annual Haleiwa Arts Festival comes alive at 10 a.m. on July 21 and 22 with art displays, musicians, singers, dancers storytellers and more. Call 637-2277.

* SMALL BUSINESS The Small Business Administration offers free 30-minute consultations for small business owners at the Mililani Bank of Hawaii (95-221 Kipapa Dr.) from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. July 25. Call 541-2990 ext. 210.

* RECYCLING DRIVE A community recycling drive runs 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Sunset Beach Elementary School. All kinds of discards - from appliances to tires to batteries and HI-5 containers - are welcome. For help with pick-up, call 306-1876.

* WAHIAWA HIKE The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 9-mile advanced hike along Schofield Trail at 8 a.m. Aug. 5. Call 263-8330.

* SELF-PUBLISHING Author Rich Budnick leads a free workshop at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Mililani Library on how to publish your own book. Call 395-1161.

* ART TOUR North Shore Artists Studio Tour - a team of six artists from Turtle Bay to Kaena Point - open their studios to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Tuesday. Call 637-8934 or log onto www.hawaiinorthshoreartists.com


* MOMS The Central Oahu Moms Club invites stay-at-home mothers and their children to join its activities. Call 218-8524.

* WAIMEA VALLEY The Waimea Valley Audubon Center offers afternoon guided walks on wildlife and plants each week. For details, call 638-9199.
