Below are some highlights of what’s happening in the Central Oahu community over the next few weeks.

* STRYKER HEARING The U.S. Army conducts three Oahu hearings this month on its draft environmental impact statement on the Stryker Brigade being stationed at Schofield Barracks. One of the hearings is set for 5:30 to 9:45 p.m. Oct. 2 at Wahiawa District Park, 1139 Kilani Ave. The public comment period ends Oct. 30. * SUSTAINABILITY The Hawaii Sustainability Task Force meets with Central Oahu residents from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Haleiwa Elementary School cafeteria to learn how they can improve the plan for Hawaii in year 2050. Call 550-2661.

* BLOOD DRIVES The Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 6, 13 and 20 at the Mililani Town Center; and from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Waikele Center (next to Leonard’s Malasadas). Call 845-9966.

* WAIMEA VALLEY Waimea Valley Audubon Center offers a Lei Po ‘o (head lei) workshop at 1 p.m. Oct. 7; a North Valley hike at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 20, and a “Spooky Splendor” Halloween activity at 1 p.m. Oct. 27. Also planned is its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. Nov. 3. HECO will also give away one tree per family that day (for Arbor Day), while supplies last. Call 638-9199.

* WAIPIO CLASSES Kaiser Permanente’s Waipio Clinic offers a class in Better Money Management Oct. 9, the AARP Driver Safety Program Oct. 13 and 27, and Personal Safety and Self-Defense Oct. 20. The clinic is at 94-1480 Moaniani St. For fees and details, call 432-2270.

* HOMECOMINGS Leilehua High School’s homecoming game is Oct. 12 at the school stadium; Waialua High’s homecoming is Oct. 19 and includes a parade at 4 p.m., concert at 6 p.m., and football games Oct. 20 starting with JV at 4 p.m. verses Nanakuli. Call 637-8200.

* PSYCHIC FAIRS Intuitive Entertainment conducts psychicfairs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 13 and 14 at the Mililani Town Center (by Loco Moco). Call 239-2574.

* HARVEST FEST Liliuokalani Protestant Church in Haleiwa has its annual Harvest Festival Oct. 13. The Royal Hawaiian Band will play at 1:15 p.m. For details, call 637-9364.

* NEIGHBORS The Wahiawa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at Wahiawa District Park; Mililani Mauka-Launani Valley board meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at Mililani Mauka Elementary cafeteria; the North Shore board meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at Alii Beach Park; and the MililaniWaipio-Melemanu board meets at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Mililani Rec Center III. * RUMMAGE Christ Lutheran Church conducts its annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 20 at 95-1361 Meheula Parkway. Proceeds support scholarships, outreach and other projects. Call 623-9229.


* SELF-DEFENSE The Kaiser Waipio Clinic conducts a class in personal safety and self-defense from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 20. Call 432-2270.

* HIKES The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club conducts a 5-mile, intermediate hike of Malaekahana Loop at 8 a.m. Oct. 20; and a 9-mile intermediate hike at 8 a.m. Oct. 28 above Dillingham Airfield. Go to www.htmclub.org

* FALL FEST The annual Wahiawa General Hospital Fall Festival is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 27, featuring a health fair, plant sale, Krispy Kremes, keiki ID, entertainment, food and more. Call 621-4309.

* HALLOWEEN Mililani Shopping Center plans a pumpkin giveaway from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 27 and free trick-or-treating from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 31. Call 551-8930.

* WAIALUA ART Waialua Library offers an exhibit by four local artists now through Oct. 31. Call 637-8286.

* CLEANUP The third annual Da Hui/Wolfpak North Shore Beach Clean Up & Winter Makahiki is set for 8 a.m. Nov. 3 at Velzyland Park.

* MILILANI STORIES Mililani Library conducts its Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Nov. 13 in the Children’s Area for keiki ages 3 to 5 years old, accompanied by a parent. Call 627-7470.

* WAHIAWA STORIES Wahiawa Library conducts Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 28 in the Children’s Room for keiki ages 3 to 5 years old, accompanied by a parent. Call 622-6345.

* WAIPIO MARKET Kaiser Waipio Clinic hosts a “fresh day” market of healthy food and produce from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Wednesday at 94-1480 Moaniani St. Call 432-2270.

* MILILANI MARKET Mililani High School hosts a Farmers Market from 8 to 11 a.m. Sundays in the gym parking lot. Call 848-2074.

* MOMS The Central Oahu Moms Club invites stay-at-home mothers and their children to join its activities. Call 218-8524.

* YOGA Jasmiine Yoga offers daily yoga classes for all ages at the Weinberg Community Center in Waialua. Call 561-9639.

* TOASTMASTERS The Pineapple Toastmasters Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday at Sgt.Yano Library on Schofield Barracks. All those interested in improving their public speaking are welcome to join. Call Don or Elaine at 622-0169.
