Below are some highlights of what’s happening in the Central Oahu community over the next few weeks.

* AYSO SIGNUPS Mililani AYSO registration for fall is set for 5 to 8 p.m. April 29 at Mililani District Park multi-purpose building for all players born between Aug. 1, 1989 and July 31, 2004. Go to www.mililaniayso.com

* PLANT CLASS & ART Wahiawa Botanical Garden offers tips on head-lei making at 1 p.m. April 29. Fee is $15 fee. Call 522-7064. The garden also has a Plant Doctor session at 9 a.m. May 2, and self-directed classes in botanical drawing and painting from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays through May 28. * GERRY LOPEZ BOOK Waimea Valley Center hosts a book reading and signing at 6 p.m. April 29 for North Shore big-wave rider Gerry Lopez. His book, Surf Is Where You Find It, also is available at Patagonia in Haleiwa. Call 638-7766.

* PINEAPPLE VENDORS April 30 is the deadline for vendors to reserve space at the annual Wahiawa Pineapple Festival, set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17 at Wahiawa District Park. Call 227-8229.

* POAMOHO HEARING The state DLNR holds a public hearing at 6 p.m. April 30 on the proposed addition of parts of Puamoho to its Natural Area Reserve System. The hearing is in Room 132 at the Kalanimoku state office building, 1151 Punchbowl St. Call 587-4170.

* CINCO DE MAYO Mililani Town Center celebrates Cinco de Mayo at 6 p.m. May 2 with music, food and fun in front of Just Tacos. Call 625-5233.

* KIDNEY CHECK State Rep. Michael Magaoay sponsors a free kidney screening from 8 a.m. to noon May 3 at Liliuokalani Protestant Church in Haleiwa. For an appointment, call Magaoay at 586-6380.

* HO’ALA LUAU Ho’ala School hosts its second annual luau from 5 to 9 p.m. May 3 at Wahiawa Hongwanji auditorium, featuring the King Pins, Ho’ala taiko drummers and emcee Lina Girl of KCCN FM100. Also planned: a silent auction, bouncers, catered Hawaiian food and door prizes. Theme is “Building Tomorrow, Today, Together.” Tickets cost $30 and $15. Call 621-1898.

* OKINAWA CRAFTS Hawaii United Okinawa Association conducts its Spring Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3 at Hawaii Okinawa Center, 94-587 Ukee St. Bring a non-perishable item for the Hawaii Foodbank, and take the “Andagi Shuttle” from Leeward Community college to the fair. Call 676-5400.

* PINEAPPLE RUN The Central Oahu Chief Petty Officers Association sponsors the annual Pineapple Run at 7 a.m. May 10 at Kaala Elementary School. The 10K run goes through Wahiawa and the surrounding pineapple fields, with pineapples for all finishers. Fee is $20. Call 653-9530 or sign up online by May 7 at www.active.com

* FILM FEST BYU-Hawaii is a host site for the global Pangea Day film festival at 7:30 a.m. May 10 in the college auditorium, where 24 short films “to inspire, transform and help the world” will be broadcast simultaneously around the world. Call Ryan Anderson at 675-3910.

* ORCHID SHOW Mililani Orchid Club hosts its annual show from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10 at Mililani Uka Elementary School. Call 623-1114.

* PUPUKEA HIKE The Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club leads a 9-mile intermediate hike to the Pupukea summit at 8 a.m. May 11. Go to www.htmclub.org

* MDA CAMP Volunteers are needed to assist at the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual camp for children, set for June 6-13 at Camp Erdman. Call 593-4454.

* ESKRIMA Kali Eskrima conducts classes in the Filipino martial art of stick fighting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays at Mililani Waena Elementary School. Monthly fee is $50. Call 398-0119.

* WAIPIO MARKET Kaiser Waipio Clinic hosts a “fresh day” market of healthy food and produce from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Wednesday at 94-1480 Moaniani St. Call 432-2270.

* MILILANI MARKET Mililani High School hosts a Farmers Market from 8 to 11 a.m. Sundays in the gym parking lot. Call 848-2074.

* MOMS The Central Oahu Moms Club invites stay-at-home mothers and their children to join its activities. Call 218-8524.

* YOGA Jasmiine Yoga offers daily yoga classes for all ages at the Weinberg Community Center in Waialua. Call 561-9639.

* TOASTMASTERS The Pineapple Toastmasters Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday at Sgt. Yano Library on Schofield Barracks. All those interested in improving their public speaking are welcome to join. Call Don or Elaine at 622-0169.
