* NEIGHBORS Wahiawa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at Wahiawa District Park; the Mililani Mauka-Launani Valley board meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at Mililani Mauka Elementary School cafeteria; the North Shore board meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at John Kalili Surf Center; and Mililani-Waipio-Melemanu meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at Mililani Rec Center III. * CHILDREN’S COUNCILThe Central District North Community Children’s Council meets at 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at Leilehua Golf Course to assist parents of children with special needs. Call 655-4777.

* WAHIAWA MUSIC Higher Ground Cafe offers music at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday nights at 70 Kukui St. in Wahiawa. gigs this week are Ginai with three bands Aug. 20, Open Mic Aug. 21, Jazz Night Aug. 22 and Ernie CruzJr. with Todd Adamski Aug. 23. Call 622-0000.

* POLO SEASON Hawaii Polo Club matches start at 2 p.m. Aug. 24 at Mokuleia polo field; this week’s music is by Rolando Sanchez & Brown Sound Orchestra. Call 637-8401.

* NORTH SHORE RECYCLING Haleiwa Gym hosts a community recycling day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 23, accepting large appliances. HI-5 containers,ink cartridges, car batteries, computers (one per car), cooking oil and more. Proceeds go Waialua Community Association. Call 306-1876.

* HOLIDAY CLOSURES Public schools and libraries are closed Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 in observance of Labor Day.

* MILILANI MUSIC Fusion plays from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Aug. 30 at The Shack in Mililani. Call 627-1561.

* ESKRIMA Patrick Delos Santos offers Kali Eskrima classes (Filipino stick-fighting) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9:30 a.m. Saturdays at Mililani Waena Elementary School. Fee is $50 per month. Call 398-0119.

* HI-5 DRIVE Leilehua High School’s 2009 Project Grad committee collects HI-5 containers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first and third Saturday in the school parking lot. Call 542-1793.
