* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 29 and 30 in the BYU-Hawaii Half Ballroom; 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 4 and 18 at Mililani Town Center; and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at Mililani High School. Call 845-9966.

* WAHIAWA MUSIC Higher Ground Cafe has entertainment from 7 p.m. on various dates at 70 Kukui St. Current offerings include Open Mic Night Oct. 1, Led Kaapana Oct. 3, Tavana (at 7:30) Oct. 4, Open Mic Oct. 8, Ernie Cruz Jr. Oct. 10, and Miss Buddha Oct. 11. Call 622-0000.

* RECYCLING Leilehua High School Project Grad conducts an HI-5 recycling drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 and 18 at the school. Call 542-1793.

* SKATEBOARDS Dakine Amateur Skate Contest starts at 9 a.m. Oct. 4 at Mililani District Park’s Skate Park, with “tons” of prizes for all age groups, plus top team riders. Free signups starts at 8:30 a.m., and slots are limited. Call 483-8710.


* TRIATHLON The Haleiwa Triathlon starts at 6 a.m. Oct. 5 at Haleiwa Beach Park where more than 300 triathletes will swim, run and bike their way in and around the town. Call 372-8885.

* BENEFIT TENNIS Play for the Cure Charity Tennis Tournament is from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 5 at Central Oahu Regional Park, with all proceeds going to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Entry fee is $100 for a team of two men and two women. Call 955-6696.

* WAIALUA BANDSTAND The U.S. Marine Corps Pacific Jazz Orchestra is tentatively scheduled to perform at 4 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Waialua Bandstand, near the sugar mill, sponsored by Haleiwa’s Malama Market. Call 637-4520.

* SCHOOL INTERSESSION Hawaii public schools are on intersession break from Oct. 6 through 10; plus a Teachers Institute Day Oct. 13.

* BALLROOM DANCE Mililani’s ballroom dance chapter begins new classes at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at Mililani Uka Elementary School, meeting each Tuesday for 10 weeks. Those interested may register during the first class. Fee is $10 plus $8 for each of three dance styles. Call Vic at 292-7470.

* STORYTELLER Cathy Spagnoli shares Japanese folk tales at 10 a.m. Oct. 10 at Waialua Library (637-8286) and 10:30 a.m. Oct. 13 at Wahiawa Library (622-6345).

* HARVEST FEST Lili’uokalani Protestant Church’s yearly Fall Harvest Festival is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 11 at 66-090 Kamehameha Hwy. in Haleiwa with food, music, produce, prizes and much more. Call 637-9364.

* CHILDREN’S COUNCIL The Central District North’s Community Children’s Council meets at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Leilehua Golf Club. Parents of children with special needs are welcome. Call 655-4777.

* LIBRARY TALES Nyla Fujii-Babb and Yukie Shiroma present Bones, a humorous exploration inspired by the mystique of ancient human bones, at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Mililani Library. Call 627-7470.


* WAIALUA PARADE The Waialua High School homecoming parade is at 4 p.m. Oct. 17, from the school to Haleiwa and back with 600 marchers, 12 vehicles, eight floats and the band. Call 222-8506.

* WAHIAWA TOUR Wahiawa Community and Business Association hosts a free trolley tour of the town at 10 a.m. Oct. 18, starting from Center Street. Call 621-5109, ext. 226.

* KEIKI STORIES Wahiawa Library hosts a fall preschool storytime at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 22. Call 622-6345.

* ART WALK Haleiwa presents its monthly Art Walk from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25 with artists, live entertainment, pupus and sidewalk sales. Call 637-4558.

* WAIALUA ART Waialua Library’s fall exhibit of area artists is open through Oct. 30 at the library. Call 637-8286.

* ESCRIMA Kali Escrima classes in Filipino self-defense (stick fighting) meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9:30 a.m. Saturdays at Mililani Waena Elementary School. Fee is $50 per month. Call 398-0119.

* WAIMEA GREETERS Waimea Valley seeks volunteer greeters to share the park’s history and lore one day a week for two-and-a-half hours. Call Kelly Perry at 638-7766, ext. 203.
