* HOUSE PLANTS Local gardener Stella Keil demonstrates “The Care and Feeding of Indoor Plants” at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at Kahuku Library. Call 293-8935.
* RAIL TRANSIT The public comment period has been extended from Jan. 7 to Feb. 6 on the draft EIS for the Honolulu rail transit project. Copies are at area libraries. Call 768-8305.
* WAHIAWA MUSIC Higher Ground Cafe has live entertainment from 7 p.m. on various nights at 70 Kukui St. They also offer kanikapila sessions where the public is welcome to bring their instruments and play along. The next ones are set for 2 to 4 p.m Jan. 10 and Feb. 21. Call 622-0000.
* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives at Mililani Town Center from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 11 and 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m Jan. 17; Leilehua High School will have a drive from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 15 in the school library. Call 845-9966.
* BOOK CLUB Kahuku Library’s Book Club meets at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13 to discuss Thomas Mann’s German classic The Magic Mountain. The novel is suitable for adults. Call 293-8935.
* GUITAR HERO Kahuku Library’s After School Club meets at 12:45 p.m. Jan. 14 and features Guitar Hero. Call 293-8935.
* HI-5 DRIVE Leilehua High School’s 2009 Project Grad committee collects HI-5 containers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 17 in the school parking lot. Call 542-1793.
* NEIGHBORS Wahiawa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at Wahiawa District Park; Mililani Mauka-Launani Valley meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at Mililani Mauka Elementary; the North Shore board meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at Haleiwa Alii Beach Park; and Mililani-Waipio-Melemanu meets at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Mililani Rec Center III. * STRESS TALK Kahuku Library presents Dr. Halona Tanner of Koolauloa Community Health and Wellness Center at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 20 discussing “Managing Stress to Live a Healthier Life.” Call 293-8935.
* HISTORY Wahiawa Historical Society has its first annual meeting at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 30 at Wahiawa Botanical Garden, featuring a brunch prepared by Leilehua High culinary students. Guest speaker Lani Nedbalek will discuss oral histories. Cost of the brunch is $10. Society membership is $25,$50 and $100 for lifetime members. Call 621-0043.
* ART WALK The monthly Haleiwa Art Walk runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 31 in the town’s shops, restaurants and galleries. Call 637-4558.

* SURF CULTURE The North Shore Surf and Cultural Museum is open from 11 a.m.to 6 p.m.every day but Tuesday in the North Shore Marketplace, offering displays of vintage boards, posters and much more. Donation is requested. Call 637-8888.
* LA LECHE La Leche League of Central Oahu meets at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the large meeting room at Schofield Barracks. All breast-feeding and expectant mothers are welcome. Call 772-0438.
* GARDEN ADVISERS Kokua Hawaii Foundation seeks volunteers to work as nutrition docents, garden assistants and more for its ‘Aina in the Schools program. Call Kelly at 638-5145.
* MILILANI MARKET Mililani High School hosts a Farmers Market from 8 to 11 a.m. Sundays in the gym parking lot. Call 848-2074.
