January

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at Wahiawa General Hospital; noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 28 at the BYU-Hawaii ballroom; and 6:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Feb. 7 and 7 a.m-1 p. m. Feb. 8 at Mililani Town Center. Call 845-9966.

* NEIGHBORS North Shore Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at Haleiwa Alii Beach Park and the Mililani-Waipio-Melemanu board meets at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Mililani Rec Center III. Call 768-3710.


* TRINITY OPEN HOUSE Trinity Lutheran School has a curriculum fair and open house from 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 29 at 1611 California Ave., featuring classroom visits and talks with teachers. Call 621-6033.

* COLLEGE AID First Hawaiian Bank and the Hawaii Association for College Admission Counseling sponsor a college planning workshop at 7 p.m.Jan.29 in the Mililani High School cafeteria, including handouts, refreshments and door prizes for interested parents and students. Call 842-8900.

* HISTORY Wahiawa Historical Society holds its first annual meeting at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 30 at Wahiawa Botanical Garden, featuring a brunch prepared by Leilehua High culinary students. Guest speaker Lani Nedbalek will discuss oral histories. Cost of the brunch is $10. WHS membership is $25, $50 and $100 for lifetime members. (Reservations were due Dec. 23.) Call 621-0043.

* CHINESE NEW YEAR Wahiawa Shopping and Town centers celebrate Chinese New Year from 2 to 6 p.m. Jan. 31 with a lion dance, martial arts, drawing, mah jongg fortune readings and other cultural activities. Call 262-0687.


* ART WALK The monthly Haleiwa Art Walk runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 31 in the town’s shops, restaurants and galleries. Call 637-4558.

* PERFORMING ARTS Sunshine Generation Children’s Performing Group conducts classes for boys and girls age 3 to 16 in Mililani, with new classes starting this month. Call 489-1998.

February

* RAIL TRANSIT The public comment period has been extended to Feb. 6 on the draft EIS for the Honolulu rail transit project. Copies are at area libraries. Call 768-8305.

* WAHIAWA MUSIC Higher Ground Cafe has live entertainment from 7 on various nights at 70 Kukui St. They also offer kanikapila sessions where the public is welcome to bring their instruments and play along. The next one is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 21. Call 622-0000.

* SURF CULTURE North Shore Surf and Cultural Museum is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day but Tuesday in the North Shore Marketplace, offering displays of vintage boards, posters and much more. Donation is requested. Call 637-8888.

* ESCRIMA Patrick Delos Santos offers Kali Escrima classes in Filipino self-defense (stick fighting) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 9:30 a.m. Saturdays at Mililani Waena Elementary School. Fee is $50 per month. Call 398-0119.

* HI-5 DRIVE-WAHIAWA Leilehua High School’s 2009 Project Grad committee collects HI-5 containers from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first and third Saturday of each month in the school parking lot. Call 542-1793.

* HI-5 DRIVE-MILILANI Mililani High School’s Project Grad collects HI-5 recyclables from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month in the school parking lot. Call 623-3817.

* GARDEN ADVISERS Kokua Hawaii Foundation seeks volunteers to work as nutrition docents, garden assistants and more for its ‘Aina in the Schools program. Call Kelly at 638-5145.

* WAIPIO MARKET Kaiser Waipio Clinic hosts a “fresh day” market of healthy food and produce from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Wednesday at 94-1480 Moaniani St. Call 432-2270.

* MILILANI MARKET Mililani High School hosts a Farmers Market from 8 to 11 a.m. Sundays in the gym parking lot. Call 848-2074.

* MOMS The Central Oahu Moms Club invites stay-at-home mothers and their children to join its activities. Call 218-8524.
